Imagine waking up each morning feeling renewed, happy, full of life, spirit, and energy.

Our lives consist of inner thoughts and beliefs that manifest our reality on the outside. A positive mindset is the key to personal power and the fuel for your success. Positive affirmations are a powerful tool in changing negative thought patterns into personal positive power.

Writing an affirmation is easy. It consists of a single, positive sentence. In this article I'll explain what an affirmation is and how to write one. I will also challenge you to write an affirmation a day on the index cards, thus providing you with 365 affirmations to use.

Understanding what a positive affirmation means is key to successful completing this how-to. Research shows that 75 % of our self-talk is negative. Postive affirmations are healing scripts that will help you dismiss and over power your negative thoughts. They will help you let go of the negative emotional baggage you have been carrying around. Positive affirmations are a personal statement saying you are allowing yourself to let go, grow, to rise up, and better yourself. A positive affirmation has three core areas. “I”, “I can”, and “I will”. All stating something about yourself. “I” statements are stating something that exists within you. “I can” statements are stating something about your potential. “I will” statements are about change in your life. They are simply statements of self belief and personal power. The basic theroy of positive affirmations is that you may not at first believe your positive statement, however repeating it over and over convinces your sub-conscious self that it is in fact true.

You need to discover what it is about your life you would like to change. Use this time to take the pen/pencil and the notebook to write out a free form writing of all the things that come to mind. Try to keep in mind your most significant life challenges. Do not worry about spelling, grammar, punctuality, or how it looks. Just write freely. When you feel satisfied that your list is complete, stop.

Now look over your list of life challenges and try to narrow it down. For example, "I want to loose weight" will become "I will loose 5 lbs by July 1, 2007". The more specific you are about your life challenges, the more effective the affirmation will be. Rewrite your narrowed list down on a fresh sheet of paper.
Remember, positive affirmations are more than just repeating words to yourself. It is an entire process of becoming aware of your thoughts and words. Positive statement's = Positive Thoughts.

Lets write an affirmation! A positive affirmation must be in the present tense. This will tell yourself this is how it is right now in this moment instead of this is how I hope it will be in the future. Make the affirmation meaningful to you, the more emotion put into it - the more powerful it will be to you.

Lets take a look at some example affirmations.

* I give myself permission to be happy, healthy and prosperous.
* I am smart, witty, and gorgeous.
* I can open myself up to my mother today.
* I have the ability to make good choices.
* I am a great person.
* I can get an A+ on this thesis statement.

Notice how each statement is full of positive and stated in the present? Feel free to play with your words and thoughts. No one will read your affirmations unless you allow them to. Be as imaginative as you want.

There are several techniques you can use for your affirmation statements. Always do what you feel comfortable with.

Mirror Affirmation Technique: Repeat your affirmation at least three times while facing the mirrar. Make eye contact with yourself and smile.

Tone it Down Technique: If you hear your little inner voice screaming out a negative thought, visualize turning down the knob on a stereo. As you turn this knob down the little negative thought tones down with it. Once it's quiet, visualize the knob being turned up to full blast repeating a positive affirmation.

Throw it Out: Whenever you find something you don't like. Write it down and throw it into the trash. By doing this, you are telling the universe, I want to be done with this problem, please help me work through it and be done with it.

Find ways that you can incorporate your affirmations into your daily routine. Make them convienent. Enjoy life, enjoy who you are, and be good to yourself! I wish you peace and happiness on all your journeys
